Cancer Care in China: Screening, Treatment and Second Opinions

China’s major cancer centers treat some of the largest oncology patient volumes in the world, which gives them deep experience across every common tumor type. For international patients, they offer a combination of modern technology and accessible pricing.

Diagnostics and screening

Leading hospitals provide the full modern toolkit: high-resolution CT and MRI, PET-CT, endoscopy, molecular pathology and next-generation sequencing for targeted therapy selection. Reports in English are generally available through international patient departments.

Treatment options

Multidisciplinary tumor boards — where surgeons, oncologists and radiologists jointly decide a plan — are standard practice at top centers. Treatment spans surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy including advanced techniques such as IMRT and proton therapy in selected centers, plus targeted and immunotherapy options approved in China.

Getting a second opinion

Second opinions are normal and encouraged. Bring your pathology slides or blocks if possible — a Chinese pathologist re-reading your slides adds real information. A remote consultation with your records is a low-cost way to start.

Practical planning

Confirm drug availability in China before committing to a specific regimen, book accommodations for the expected treatment duration, and plan follow-up imaging schedules. A clear calendar — treatment weeks, rest periods, review visits — makes the journey far more manageable.
