Cardiovascular disease is the most-studied condition in Chinese medicine, and the country’s cardiac centers perform enormous annual volumes of diagnostic and interventional procedures. That experience matters — outcomes in complex heart care track closely with a center’s case volume.
Diagnostic pathway
A cardiac workup in China typically includes ECG and echocardiography, laboratory panels, stress testing, CT coronary angiography and, where indicated, invasive coronary angiography. Most tests can be completed within a few days in a well-organized hospital, compared with weeks of waiting elsewhere.
Common interventions
Coronary intervention: stent implantation for blocked arteries is performed at high volume with modern drug-eluting stents.
Cardiac surgery: bypass grafting and valve procedures, including minimally invasive approaches, at dedicated cardiac surgery centers.
Electrophysiology: pacemakers, ablation for arrhythmias and device therapy delivered by specialized EP teams.
After the procedure
Expect a clear medication plan, a rehabilitation referral and a follow-up schedule. International patients should request their records in English — including procedure reports and device details — before leaving, since hometown cardiologists will need them.
Cardiac care is also one of the clearest examples of China’s value proposition: modern catheter labs, experienced operators and total costs that remain well below those of comparable Western hospitals.
